Our promise: Your classmates see your posts — not your name. Verification helps keep Unstag campus-only and safer, without turning your feed into a real-identity social network.
1. Anonymous by design
Confessions, secrets, gossip, crushes, incidents, and most public feed interactions are designed so other students cannot see your real-world identity from a normal post. Handles, avatars, and campus metadata are shown according to product rules — not your legal name or college email.
What others see
Your post content, reactions, and the anonymous profile presentation allowed by the app (such as handle/avatar where applicable).
What others don’t see
Your college email, student ID submission details, and private verification records used to confirm eligibility.
2. Why we verify students
Unstag is campus-exclusive. Verification (college email and/or ID) helps us:
- Keep outsiders from flooding your campus feed.
- Reduce fake accounts and coordinated abuse.
- Build trust that Explore / My Campus content comes from real students.
- Enable safety actions if someone violates our Terms.
Verification data is used for eligibility, security, and abuse prevention — not for displaying your identity on anonymous posts.
3. Separation of identity & content
We architect Unstag so public-facing campus content is not presented with your real identity. Internally, limited account linkage may exist so we can:
- Authenticate you securely.
- Enforce bans and rate limits.
- Investigate severe safety reports.
- Provide account recovery and support.
Access to sensitive verification records is restricted to authorized systems and personnel on a need-to-know basis.
4. Technical safeguards
Encryption in transit
Data between the app and our servers is protected using modern transport encryption (HTTPS/TLS).
Access controls
Administrative and backend access is limited, monitored, and protected with security best practices.
Abuse monitoring
Reports, spam signals, and suspicious patterns help us remove harmful content and repeat offenders.
Least exposure
We aim to collect only what we need for campus exclusivity, features, and safety — see our Privacy Policy.
5. Chats, private comments & controls
Where features like anonymous chats or private comments exist, treat them carefully. Even in an anonymous app:
- Don’t share phone numbers, addresses, or ID photos in posts.
- Don’t pressure others to reveal who they are.
- Use report tools for harassment, threats, or doxxing.
- Remember: anonymity reduces visibility — it does not make illegal behavior allowed.
6. What anonymity does not mean
- It does not mean the Service is impossible to abuse — report problems early.
- It does not prevent us from taking action on accounts that violate Terms or law.
- It does not guarantee that someone won’t guess your identity from context you voluntarily write (unique details, writing style, or self-identification). Avoid posting details that only you would know if you need stronger privacy.
- It does not override lawful requests we may be legally required to respond to.
7. Your role in staying safe
- Use a strong device passcode and keep the app updated.
- Don’t reuse passwords across services.
- Be careful with screenshots — once content leaves Unstag, we can’t control it.
- Report harmful posts instead of engaging in pile-ons or revenge posting.
8. Safety reporting
If you see threats, self-harm content, sexual exploitation, or attempts to expose someone’s identity, report it in-app and contact support@unstag.com for urgent cases. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
